Welcome pre-conference participants

Hello Everyone,

I am looking forward to meeting each of you tomorrow at our pre-conference session! As a reminder, we are in Homestead 3; you may check-in (sign in, media release, goodie bag) anytime after 12:30. We would like to use this discussion board to build community for anything conference-related, i.e., networking with new friends from the pre-conference, sessions that you would like to see if others are attending and anything else you would like to share with the pre-conference participants.

Additionally, if you are here on your own, please join us for any meals or social time; the more, the merrier!

We will have a thread titled "Let's Meet & Eat," and share where we plan to go to dinner on Friday evening, where we are sitting for the AACTE-sponsored breakfasts and lunches. No pressure; we want to ensure everyone feels welcome and meets new friends this year in…

Fall Institute 2022: Pre-Panel Discussion

Welcome to NACCTEP's Fall Institute 2022 Pre-Panel Discussion! The purpose of this panel is to take a moment to pause and reflect on the legacy of community college teacher education programs over the past 20 years!


We are excited to have four NACCTEP leaders share insight into their work: Dr. Cheri St. Arnauld; Dr. Ray Ostos; Mrs. Kim Tobey; and Dr. Linda Gronberg-Quinn. Each has written a blog post for us which we invite you to read.


Once you have, we invite you to respond to this post by answering this question: Who are you? What is your role, and where are you from? Where have you seen community college teacher education go over the past 20 years? And, where do you see--or hope to see--it go in the next 20?

Hello! My name is Tricia McKay and I am the Program Director for the Child Development and Early Education Associate Degree program at Lansing Community College in Michigan. When I think about the progress we have made in community college teacher preparation programs over the last 20 years, one of the first things that comes to mind, especially in early childhood education teacher preparation, is accreditation and meeting professional preparation standards. Achieving accreditation and aligning our teacher preparation programs with national standards has strengthened our credibility in higher ed. and increased the quality of education that we are providing for our students. Where do I hope to see us in the next 20 years? My biggest hope is that early childhood education as field is no longer viewed as a service industry with low wages, but is seen as the education profession that is truly is, in which early childhood educators are valued, respected, and well compensated.

My name is Cecelia Monto and I serve as Vice President of NACCTEP. My participation with the organization has connected me with resources and new information that I have used to strengthen my Teacher ED program. I have benefitted from learning about effective transfer agreements across the United States, and info sessions on topics like socio-emotional learning and adapting to the pandemic. I am aware the Teacher Education is rapidly changing and I look forward to more information that can enhance my program. I am especially interested in the annual conference in February because new teacher apprenticeships and post-bacc models will be discussed- areas of interest in my state. I also enjoy the network of colleagues and spirited discussions. In my role as a community college dean of not only Education, but Languages and Social Sciences too, the information I have gained with NACCTEP has been relevant and timely in these areas of my work also. I look forward to meeting up with colleagues online and at the next conference in sunny Phoenix!
