New Beginnings and All That Jazz in Community College Teacher Education Programs is an opportunity for you to showcase your exceptional programs, share pivotal experiences, and shape the future by exploring a magnificent collection of diversified learning opportunities. Celebrate with the most energetic community college professionals as they work together to advance quality teacher education programs in the community college. We invite you to take this opportunity to highlight your college's innovative partnership, practice, program, or policy that supports New Beginnings and All That Jazz in Community College Teacher Education Programs!
Submit your 60 minute breakout session presentation proposals today in one of the four conference strands:
Partnerships - Showcase the innovative and new ways that your community college is working with entities to develop strong teacher education programs. Partnership proposals can highlight such things as increasing capacity to strengthen access opportunities, articulation efforts that support recruitment & retention efforts, or collaborations with entities committed to strengthening quality teacher education programs. Entities can be businesses, other institutions, state departments of education, K-12 schools, or organizations.
Practice - Highlight your teacher education program(s) that demonstrates quality recruiting, preparing, and retaining teacher education students in the community college. Proposals can include such things as recruitment strategies increasing the diversity of prospective teachers, contextual learning across all content areas, program evaluation, data collection, quality curriculum, content, quality course work, student support services, field experience programs, or a stumbling block(s) to success.
Programs - Provide examples of quality teacher education programs that have evidence of success. Model programs will include community college teacher preparation programs, post baccalaureate programs, community college certification programs, paraprofessional programs, early childhood programs, 2+2, alternative certification, community college baccalaureate, special education programs, and professional development programs.
Policy - Characterize the innovative way your community college is working towards influencing professional standards, certification/licensure issues, advocacy, No Child Left Behind, legal issues, state policies, program evaluations, or any other policy issues impacting quality teacher education. To increase the policy sessions these proposals will be given a higher priority for committee consideration.
How to Submit a Proposal
Breakout Presentations may include one or more speakers in a small, classroom setting. Sessions are 60 minutes in length and highlight successful and innovative programs by colleges or consortiums. All breakout sessions are scheduled for March 3, 2007.
Proposals must include the following items:
1. Summary of the presentation for the conference program. Booklet requirements are: 50 word maximum, written in a 3rd person narrative. NACCTEP reserves the right to edit content for space and consistency.
2. A 500 word maximum description of proposed presentation being considered by the program committee. As you develop your proposal please keep the following items in mind:
- Why is your proposal innovative or creative?
- Does your proposal address a current issue?
- Did you include key items to make the concept of your proposal clear? Is your proposal related to the conference strand partnerships, practice, programs, or policy?
- Are components of NACCTEP’s Mission & Goals incorporated into the proposal?
3. Brief description of presentation format including intended audience.
4. What was the program start date?
5. Complete description of AV equipment requested for your presentation. Can presentation be modified if equipment is not available? Pricing information for AV equipment per session:
Internet connection: $250.00
LCD and screen: $145.00
VHS player with monitor: $145.00
DVD player with monitor: $145.00
Flip chart(s): $145.00
Overhead: $145.00
Fees for AV equipment not listed will be determined if needed.
Proposal Deadline - All proposals must be received by or before Friday, September 29, 2006.
Proposal Acceptance Letter Notification - Acceptance letters will be sent via E-mail by early November 2006. Upon receipt of this email, presenters must register for the NACCTEP National Conference. All presenters must be paid registrants for the conference. At this time, presenters will be invoiced for AV equipment. All AV invoices must be paid by January 19, 2007.
