Welcome

This extraordinary conference will be held at the Hilton Riverside. New Beginnings in Teacher Education is an opportunity for colleagues to showcase their exceptional programs, share pivotal experiences, and shape the future by exploring a magnificent collection of diversified learning opportunities. Celebrate with the most energetic community college professionals as they work together to advance quality teacher education programs in the community college.

Dine Around

Meet new people and make new contacts by joining other NACCTEP conference participants for a shared dining experience on Saturday, March 3rd 2007. For your convenience, there are many nearby and on site dining options listed on the Hilton New Orleans Riverside website dining page. We recommend that you also ask local conference participants for recommendations.

Meet in front of the conference registration table at 6 p.m. and go to dinner as a group. Have a great time!

Help New Orleans

New Beginnings and All that Jazz is a perfect title for this year’s conference. While visiting New Orleans, we were profoundly moved to hear about our members’ experiences in the past year and to see the spirit with which they move forward building community and helping students find stability within their lives. They want very much to share their great city with our NACCTEP members this year.

We feel it is important for us all to understand the immeasurable loss the city has experienced to truly appreciate and celebrate the fortitude of this community. To do that, we are offering three separate opportunities for you.

Tour New Orleans
Grey Line Tours has been gracious enough to offer NACCTEP conference participants and their guests a group rate of $28.70 for a tour that will cover the devastation of New Orleans as well as the revitalization of this great city. If you are interested in taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity to tour New Orleans, please
click here to register for the tour and pay online.

Tour participants will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Grey Line 'Lighthouse' ticket office, at the Steamboat Natchez Dock
(see map here) To get there, walk or take the streetcar from the Hilton Street Car Stop to the Toulouse Street Car Stop.

Leave Your Mark - Community Service Project Opportunity
Due to circumstances beyond our control, the community service project has had to be cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our members and conference participants. However, please see the options to bring a backpack or tour New Orleans. Donating greatly needed supplies and/or supporting the tourism industry are both great opportunities to demonstrate your concern for and willingness to help this great city and its people.

Pack It – Bring a Backpack for a Child in Need

The children of New Orleans are in need of backpacks and school supplies (see downloadable list). If you are interested in providing these essentials to children in local area recovery schools, you may:

1. Bring with you to the conference a backpack full of school supplies. Donations will be collected at the conference registration table throughout the conference, and presented to local area school district representatives on Sunday, March 4th.

2. Ship backpacks full of school supplies to the address below. Dr. Pinsel will facilitate the distribution of shipped backpacks and supplies to children at local area recovery schools.

Louisiana Community & Technical College System
ATTN: Dr. Jerry Pinsel
265 South Foster Drive
Baton Rouge, LA 70806

Students are also in need of white, tan, or navy sweatshirts and white ankle socks to meet school dress codes (children sizes M, L, XL or adult sizes S, M). Please do not place clothing items in backpacks. Clothing will be collected separately.
