Director's Note

Dear NACCTEP Friends and Colleagues:

This is a special year for NACCTEP as we celebrate our ten year anniversary. I cannot believe how quickly time has passed. There have been many changes over the past ten years. Community colleges are much more involved in the development of future educators. We have moved from serving in a role of developing teachers to playing an integral part in creating educators for our communities, cities, and country. We are meeting the needs of our teacher education students in many ways. Our programs are as diverse as our students. We have come a long way, but there are still many challenges to overcome and opportunities to pursue. The NACCTEP Executive Board and I will continue to provide our membership with a great level of support.

There are many opportunities for you to become involved in your Association. One is to run for an Executive Board position. This year, elections will be held for the following Executive Board positions, two Member at Large, President Elect, and the Secretary. Participation on the Board provides great insight into what is occurring nationally with education policy, programs, partnerships, and funding. Member at Large, Irene Den Bleyker shared her thoughts on the fall Board meeting, "The Board meeting provided me with a broader prospective of community colleges and prospective legislation and its possible impact on teacher education programs. It demonstrated the need to have people in Washington who better understand the educational field." I hope you will consider sharing your expertise by running for one of these positions. Details may be found on the NACCTTEP website and application packets are due April 9th.

Please share the 2012 NACCTEP National Scholarship Program information with your students. The scholarship program was founded to help students at member colleges realize their dreams of becoming teachers. NACCTEP is proud to offer two $1,000 scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year. We encourage teacher education and early childhood students at member colleges to apply.
We are off to a great and busy new year.

Sincerely,

Ray A. Ostos
NACCTEP Executive Director
